It may seem like an obvious statement – "protect our trees". They give us shade in the summer, they clean our air and provide oxygen, they reduce traffic noise, they provide homes and shelter for birds and other creatures, and they give our neighbourhoods and homes beautiful green surrounds, increasing property values. These are just a few reasons why looking after our trees should be a priority.

Perhaps you haven't heard of the TreeKeepers Association but their sole purpose is to protect our "urban forests". When it comes time to prune or fell, there are a few things you should know in order to save the trees around you and ensure you get to enjoy them for years to come.

Firstly, make sure you are equipped with the correct information and are working with qualified tree specialists. There are ways that branches can be pruned, roots can be cut back, and boundary walls and fences can be built or renovated to keep trees standing. There are exotic trees that have been given a bad reputation but are in fact valuable. Some have even been declared national monuments.

So how can you get your hands on all of this important advice and information?

TreeKeepers Association membership program has been devised for just this reason. For a small annual membership fee you can attend monthly meetings, receive minutes, receive newsletters with updates and information, and play an active and engaged citizen role in our team dedicated to conserving urban forests.
